Calls go to voicemail during an install. Quote requests sit until tonight. The website says "call for pricing." Meanwhile the customer has messaged two other shops, and a fast, clear answer often wins the job.
How a tint customer gets from "my car is hot" to a booked install
Compared with PPF, tint is usually a short buying cycle. A typical customer moves through four steps:
- A trigger. A newer car, the first hot week of the year, old film turning purple or bubbling, or a friend's car that looks better than theirs.
- A search. "Window tint near me" on Google, or a shop they've seen in an Instagram or Facebook video.
- A price check. They send year, make and model to two or three shops. Many don't yet know the difference between dyed, carbon and ceramic film.
- A decision. They pick the shop that answered fast, explained the options clearly and gave a real number.
Each step has a typical leak. Fix them in order. More visibility is wasted if the price check and follow-up are broken.
The tint shop leak check
Go through this table with your own phone and your own shop's listing. Every "yes" in the second column is a job you're likely losing right now.
| Step | The leak | How to check it in five minutes | Where the fix lives |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trigger | Nobody has ever seen your work, so you're not the shop they think of | Look at your last 30 days of posts. Count the real install clips. | Filming install videos with a phone |
| Search | Your listing doesn't show tint as your main service, or it looks inactive | Search "window tint near me" from the shop's parking lot. Note your primary category and your newest photo date. | Google profile and reviews |
| Search | Visitors can't tell what you charge or which film to pick | Open your homepage on your phone. Can you find a starting price and the film options within 10 seconds? | Building a price sheet |
| Price check | The first reply comes hours later, or never if you missed the call | Call your own shop during an install and time how long until the caller hears back. | Missed-call text-back and follow-up |
| Price check | There's no way to ask for a quote after hours without calling | Look for a quote form or booking link on the homepage itself, not buried on a contact page. | Websites for tint and PPF shops |
| Decision | Every customer hears the cheapest option first and never upgrades | Ask whoever answers your phone to explain ceramic in one sentence. Is it about heat, or about darkness? | Selling film upgrades |
| After the job | Happy customers leave without being asked for a review | Count new Google reviews this month vs. jobs completed. | Review routine |
You can check the website part of this automatically. Our free shop audit looks for a quote path, tap-to-call and tap-to-text links, prices and more on your homepage. To see how your answers compare with other Michigan shops, look at the county breakdown.
What sells tint in Michigan
Because Michigan limits front side windows to a top strip, "go dark all around" isn't a pitch you can make. Sell what film does for the whole car instead: heat rejection, UV protection, less glare and privacy in the back. The rules themselves, plus how to handle a customer who asks for illegal fronts, are in our Michigan tint law guide for shops.
The tint calendar: what to push and when
For most Michigan tint shops, demand rises and falls with the temperature. Use this as a starting point and adjust it to your own booking history.
| Window | What customers are thinking | What to put in front of them |
|---|---|---|
| The first warm weeks of spring | "My car was an oven today." | Heat-rejection demos, ceramic vs. standard film, appointment availability before summer fills up |
| Summer | "I need this before my road trip." | Turnaround time, same-week openings, rear privacy for families |
| Late summer and fall | "I just bought a car." | Packages for new and new-to-them cars, old film removal and replacement |
| Winter | Usually the quietest stretch for tint | Collect reviews, film content, pre-book spring with past customers, line up dealer and fleet work |
The practical rule: put most of your ad budget where the demand is, and spend the slow months building what makes the busy months easier. More reviews, more video and a list of past customers to text in March all compound.
Which of our plans fits a tint shop
| If your biggest leak is… | Start with | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Not enough people know you exist | Launch, $997/mo + $500 setup | Meta ads built on your install video, managed monthly |
| People find you but the site doesn't convert | Growth, $1,797/mo + $750 setup | More campaigns plus landing pages that ask for the vehicle and show starting prices |
| Leads come in faster than you can answer | Scale, $2,997/mo + $1,000 setup | The full system, including text-back and follow-up automation |
Ad spend is separate and paid by you directly to the platform, and you own the ad account. Plans run a 3-month minimum. Not sure which leak is costing you most? Run the leak check above, or book a call and we'll go through it with you.
Tint shop questions
How much should a tint shop budget for a first ad test?
Work backward from capacity. Here's an illustrative example: you can fit 6 more installs a month, and you expect about 1 in 3 leads to book. That means you need around 18 leads. Multiply that by what a lead costs in your market to get a 30-day test budget. You pay that spend directly to Meta or Google, separate from any management fee. If you can't fit more installs, fix scheduling before buying leads.
How fast will marketing changes show up?
Fixes to response time and the quote path can show up within days, because they save leads you're already getting. Ads usually need a few weeks of testing. Google listing improvements and reviews build over months. Nobody can honestly promise specific numbers.
Do you work with tint shops outside Michigan?
Yes. We focus on Michigan, but ads, websites and follow-up automation can all be set up remotely. The tint rules mentioned here are Michigan's, so check your own state's law.
